First lady Michelle Obama Friday unveiled the country's first update to nutrition labels in more than two decades. Key changes include:

  • Servings Info larger; bolder type
  • "Calories" declaration more prominent
  • NEW - mandatory "Includes added sugar" and % added value
  • RACC Serving Sizes Updated
  • New Daily Value Footnote

Most food manufacturers will have to comply with the redesign by July 2018, though, companies who sell less than $10 million in products a year have until 2019.

“Very soon, you will no longer need a microscope, a calculator or a degree in nutrition to figure out whether the food you're buying is actually good for our kids...”

- Michelle Obama
